VIDEO. Table tennis: the Lebrun brothers crowned French doubles champions together for the first time in their career

The Lebrun brothers, Félix and Alexis, were crowned French men’s doubles champions on Saturday March 23 at the FDI Stadium, at home in Montpellier, after beating the Esteban Dorr – Florian Bourrassaud pair in the final 3 to 2 (7-11, 11 -4, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8).

This year 2024 will be a milestone for the Lebrun siblings. Just over four months before the start of the Olympic Games, Félix and Alexis Lebrun together became French doubles champions, a first in their careers.

The two Montpellier brothers still won their second doubles title, since Alexis had already won with Esteban Dorr in 2021 while Félix had won the final in 2022 with Laurent Cova.

Jostled by Dorr – Bourrassaud

On Saturday in the final, the sixth-ranked doubles players in the world were still bothered by Bourrassaud and Dorr, himself a player for the Lebrun club in Pro A, the Alliance Nîmes-Montpellier. After losing the first set 7-11, Félix and Alexis Lebrun got back on track by equalizing with authority (11-4).

Before finally losing the third round against their opponents, in a very tight set (9-11). In the fourth, the Lebrun led 9-5 before seeing Bourrassaud and Dorr come back to 10-8. But, on a somewhat lucky attack with the help of the net, the two Montpellier players equalized.

And in the final decisive set, the two future standard-bearers of French ping at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games brought their experience to bear to finally win 11 to 8, together at home in Montpellier.
