Section 377A of the Criminal Code, which criminalizes sex between men in Singapore, dates back to colonial times. However, it is still unclear when the regulation will be lifted. The joy of Lee’s decision is mixed with disappointment in Singapore’s LGBTQ scene. According to Lee, the government does not want to change the legal definition of marriage as a bond between a man and a woman. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queens fear this could help perpetuate discrimination.
