Schalke 04 removes “Gazprom” lettering from jersey
STORY: The second division soccer team Schalke 04 takes the lettering of their main sponsor, the Russian energy giant Gazprom, off their shirt. With a view to the “events, development and escalation of the past few days”, the decision was made after discussions with Gazprom Germania, the royal blues announced on Thursday. Instead, “Schalke 04” should be on the jersey. The traditional club from Gelsenkirchen will play in Karlsruhe on Saturday. Russia attacked Ukraine on several flanks on Thursday morning. The government in Kiev speaks of a large-scale war against Ukraine. In the West, there is talk of a serious violation of international law. Several sanctions have already been imposed on Russia. They should primarily affect the Russian banks, but also the Russian energy industry and Russian politicians.
