The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney experienced how difficult it was on Tuesday in the primary elections in the state of Wyoming. According to data provider Edison Research, Cheney received just under 29 percent of the vote. Her challenger, Harriet Hageman, supported by Trump, got a good 66 percent. The Republicans are thus sending a lawyer who is largely unknown beyond the borders of Wyoming as a candidate for Congress in Washington. Hagemann: “Wyoming spoke, and we made it clear that we were retaking our country. Wyoming’s vote shocked the elite. We will no longer tolerate representatives of the people who do not represent us.” Cheney conceded defeat. To win a victory, she would have had to support Trump’s lies about the 2020 election, the congresswoman said. “I should have joined the ongoing attacks on the US democratic system. It’s a path I couldn’t and wouldn’t go.” With Cheney’s defeat, Trump has come a big step closer to his goal of eliminating internal party adversaries. As vice chair of a committee of inquiry, Cheney plays an important role in the investigation into the storming of the Capitol in January 2021. Together with the Democrats, the Republican voted for Trump’s impeachment – which ultimately failed.
