Deluges of hail devastated certain plots of land in Chablis on Wednesday evening.

Violent storms swept across part of northern France on Wednesday, May 1, in the evening. Météo-France had placed 17 departments on orange vigilance, from Marne to Calvados, including Ile-de-France. But it was Yonne which was particularly affected.

Yonne was the department most struck by lightning on Wednesday evening, according to the specialized Météo89 account on X (formerly Twitter). Rivers of hail invaded the streets of certain localities, such as La Chapelle-Vaupelteigne.

Certain plots in Chablis were devastated. The winegrowers anticipated “a lot of damages”from Wednesday evening, according to the regional daily Republican Yonne.

The first assessments of the damage must take place Thursday morning at daybreak.
