Video: Italy: Post-fascist Meloni government sworn in

STORY: It happened very quickly in Italy. Just a few weeks after the elections in the southern European country, the new government was sworn in in Rome on Saturday. The right-wing 45-year-old Roman Giorgia Meloni will become Italy’s first female prime minister. Meloni is the leader of the far-right Fratelli d’Italia party, which forms a government coalition with the Lega and its leader Matteo Salvini and the Forza Italia of 86-year-old Silivio Berlusconi. According to the cabinet list presented to Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Friday, Antonio Tajani of Berlusconi’s conservative Forza Italia party will be appointed foreign minister. Lega boss Salvini is to become Minister for Transport and Infrastructure and Deputy Prime Minister. The swearing-in ceremony in the Presidential Palace in Rome will be followed by votes of confidence in the two chambers of Parliament in the coming days.
