STORY: The Argentine federal police arrested an Italian mafia boss on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. The authorities announced this on Monday, ending a manhunt that had lasted for years. Carmine Alfonso Maiorano, 68, is considered one of the leaders of Italy’s ‘Ndrangheta. Investigators were able to arrest him last Wednesday in the city of Guernica, in the province of Buenos Aires, a statement said. Italian-born Maiorano has been accused by international authorities of running drugs and arms between Latin America and Europe. The mafia boss has been wanted on an international arrest warrant since 2015. Interpol considers the ‘Ndrangheta to be “one of the largest and most powerful criminal organizations in the world”.
