Video: “Hermione” misses the Canary Islands with a cold shower

STORY: A waterfall is not usually one of the sights on this lakeside promenade in Gran Canaria. After heavy rain, masses of water shot through the streets on the Spanish island on Sunday. There were floods. Flights have been canceled on several islands in the Atlantic holiday region. The regional government ordered the schools to be closed on Monday – out of caution against the consequences of the Atlantic storm “Hermine”. The Spanish weather agency had issued a severe weather warning for the weekend. According to the meteorologists, on Saturday alone there was more rain than ever on a September day in the Canary Islands. On the Cumbre Vieja, in the south of the Canary Island of La Palma, the water masses acted like a cold shower. The volcanic chain was rocked by a violent eruption a year ago. The masses of lava and ash that poured over the island for three months have cooled down, but are still so hot that rain evaporates from them.
