Germany sends military material to Lithuania

Reinforcement of NATO by the German military in Lithuania. Around 350 soldiers and around 100 vehicles, such as self-propelled howitzers, were prepared in Munster on Monday to support NATO in the east. In the end, Germany should provide about half of the 1,200 soldiers. The troop deployment comes amid an increasingly tense security situation on the Ukraine-Russia border. Because in the past few weeks, Moscow has concentrated more than 100,000 soldiers on the border with eastern Ukraine, among other things. The West fears an invasion of Ukraine. However, the Russian government denies this. On the other hand, it demands clear security guarantees from the West, such as a commitment not to accept Ukraine into NATO on a permanent basis. Chancellor Olaf Scholz traveled to Kiev for talks on Monday and is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. The aim is to solve the so-called Ukraine crisis through diplomatic channels.
