Video: Fatal river attack: 16-year-old dies after shark attack in Western Australia

STORY: A sign on the banks of the Swan River here in Perth, Western Australia, warns of the danger – but a shark attack here has now been fatal to a 16-year-old. The young woman was bitten by a shark on Saturday afternoon and then pulled out of the water by rescuers. But her injuries were so serious that she died at the scene, according to Paul Robinson of the local police: “Witnesses told us that she was on the river with friends, they were out on jet skis, they might have seen dolphins and the girl jumped into the water to swim with them.” The investigators initially had no information about what type of shark it might have been. The last fatal shark attack off the coast of Western Australia occurred in November 2021. At that time, a 57-year-old man also died in Perth after being attacked by a great white shark. More than a hundred different species of sharks inhabit the waters off Western Australia. Bull sharks are regularly spotted in the area’s rivers.
