Video: Extreme athletes from Bremen: 5,170 kilometers in 86 days

STORY: The extreme athlete from Bremen, Savas Coban, did it: for 86 days he ran the distance of an ultramarathon every day until he finally reached the finish line in Lima on Tuesday. This meant that he walked an average of 60 kilometers a day, running a total of 5,170 kilometers across Peru. A record-breaking ultramarathon. His relief upon arrival at having made it is palpable: “When you want something so badly, nothing can stop you. No matter how much pain I was in, some days I was in pain all day. My feet were bleeding. But that didn’t stop me. Because this is my dream and it’s my passion. And I just had to do it. It wasn’t just for fun. I had to do it. So nothing could stop me.” Coban ran through deserts, rainforests, beaches and snow-capped mountain peaks, reaching a maximum altitude of over 5,000 meters. He left Lima on November 13th and returned there on February 7th. Without question, an extreme achievement that was only possible through his great will.
