Container ship towed free off Wangerooge

The container ship Mumbai Maersk, which ran aground in the North Sea, has been towed free again. During the night of Friday, several tugboats were able to free the freighter from its position during flooding. The 400 meter long ship got stuck on Wednesday on its way from Rotterdam to Bremerhaven off the coast of the East Frisian island of Wangerooge. A first attempt at liberation had failed. According to the CCME, a flood with a sufficiently high water level had to be awaited before trying again. During the manoeuvre, the ship’s hull remained intact and no pollutants escaped, so that the container giant was able to continue on its way.
