On her trip to the Middle East, Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited Jordan on Friday. Of course, when she met her Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi in Amman, the Middle East conflict was also discussed. There is still a “very long and rocky road” ahead of everyone involved, said Baerbock. Another topic was the Ukraine conflict. Baerbock sees no signs of de-escalation here. “Russian troop build-up continues. Since yesterday, up to 30,000 soldiers have been conducting military exercises in Belarus, some in the immediate vicinity of the Ukrainian border. On Wednesday, Russia announced another major maneuver with artillery and missiles in the Black Sea. And Russia has now also room to withdraw his diplomats from Ukraine.” That is why Germany is preparing for all scenarios in consultation with its allies, said Baerbock. “We are making it clear that there is a red line. That is Ukraine’s sovereignty. We are preparing for it, with all measures and with all severity. But at the same time we are working with all means on the dialogue, not just on the process of being back at the table , but also to stay there.” Baerbock is expected in Egypt on Saturday for the last stop on her Middle East trip.
