Baerbock in Israel – Settlement construction violates international law

Interview with Annalena Baerbock (Greens), Federal Foreign Minister: “Israel can continue to count on Germany’s solidarity and our commitment to Israel’s security under the new federal government. I would like to emphasize this once again right at the beginning of my term in office. I am also personally pleased very much looking forward to being able to build on the close and diverse relationships between our two countries and to further expand them. This Federal Government is also convinced that the negotiated two-state solution is still the best option for peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians alike From our point of view, it is important to continue building trust on the way there. Building trust in a situation where rockets are always flying. It is different when you live here in Israel than when you live in Germany. And that means that it there must be no unilateral steps.You also mentioned the negotiated solution , dialogue is the best and safest way. At this point, however, I would also like to say that we therefore have a clear stance on building housing estates. We consider it harmful and incompatible with international law. We stand ready to identify with you elements that will facilitate a resumption of direct negotiations. And where we can support, we are not only ready at any time, but always on site.”
Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock underscored Germany’s deep friendship with Israel, while at the same time criticizing the state’s domestic policies.
