Video: Against the government – mixed protest in Leipzig

STORY: Under the motto: “Hot autumn against social cold!” and combined with the demand: “Energy and food must be affordable!” Die Linke had called for protests in Leipzig on Monday evening. The left-wing member of the Bundestag Sören Pellmann on motivation and expectations: “Well, we expect three to four thousand participants here today at our rally and subsequent demonstration. And for the first time in many years we have the situation that the precarious worker is on the one side and to us, to our demonstration, that doctors come to us, that people who have never had to suffer in the past, who have not had any financial difficulties either, also said, now a point has been reached, now I will demonstrate with you You together for more social justice.” From the far right, however, the so-called “Free Saxony” mobilized to protest against the government policy. Former Left Party leader Gregor Gysi saw no reason to back down from his own call – with appropriate distancing. “Well, I’ll make that very clear. It’s always been the case that the right has tried to take over the social issues of the left in order to gain popularity among the population. But we can’t take the streets and squares from the right on the contrary. And I don’t want racists and anti-Semites and all that right-wing nonsense to use the social issue for themselves. That’s why Die Linke has to get active there again. And I’m happy that they’re getting active again. It It’s been so long since we’ve held rallies like this. It’s about time.” The demands of the left-wing demo included preventing the “anti-social gas levy” or the legal capping of gas and electricity prices as well as the immediate introduction of a so-called excess profit tax for energy companies.
