STORY: Dozens of buses carrying supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro were taken to the National Academy of Federal Police in Brasilia on Monday. After the storming of the government district, up to 1,500 people are said to have been arrested. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced that those responsible for the outbreak of violence would be brought to justice. “They were calling for a coup, that was the only thing you could hear them calling for a coup. When the former president left office without surrender and when the vice president made a statement on TV, they started attacking generals. And they called the vice president a coward and said he betrayed the whole movement.” Many people in Brazil reject the storming of the government district. Thousands took to the streets in Sao Paulo on Monday demanding punishment for the insurgents. Many of them carried signs with messages such as “Democracy Forever”. Meanwhile, Bolsonaro was rushed to a Florida hospital with abdominal discomfort. However, his doctor said it was not a serious case. Bolsonaro has been hospitalized several times in recent years after suffering stab wounds during the 2018 election campaign. He had traveled to the United States shortly before his successor took power in Brazil earlier this year.
