Victims of threats, a mayor throws in the towel during the greeting ceremony

Additional testimony to the consequences of recurring incivility targeting elected officials of the Republic, in particular mayors, even in very small towns. Saturday evening, during the greeting ceremony, the mayor of La Chapelle-Neuve (Morbihan), a town of barely a thousand inhabitants located between Lorient and Vannes, announced to everyone’s surprise that she was leaving her position .

The 68-year-old councilor, elected since 2014, explains his unexpected decision by the need to preserve his health in the face of expressions of aggressiveness of which the town hall is a victim, reports West France. She says, in particular, that she has been targeted with threats and phone calls. She also explains that she is no longer able to “put up with the behavior of certain people” on Facebook and Illiwap.

His resignation, ratified by the prefect of Morbihan, will be effective in April.
