The actress and producer Veronica Ferres can look forward to another major award: at the 45th Bavarian Film Awards ceremony on Friday, January 19th, in the Prinzregententheater, the 58-year-old will receive the Honorary Award from the Bavarian Prime Minister.
Markus Söder said when the decision was announced: “Film and Ferres are a perfect match.” The reasoning went on to say that Ferres was equally impressive as an actress, producer and public figure and was an incomparable ambassador for Bavaria as a film location.
Ferres has appeared in more than 150 German and international cinema and TV productions, including “Das Superweib” and “Rossini”. She had her breakthrough on the screen in 1992 in Helmut Dietl’s “Schtonk!”. Appearances later followed with stars such as John Malkovich (“Klimt”), Nicolas Cage, Robert De Niro and Anthony Hopkins. In 2023 she filmed the western “Unholy Trinity” with Samuel L. Jackson and Pierce Brosnan. In 2013, Ferres founded her own production company Construction Film in Munich.
The Bavarian Prime Minister’s Prize is one of the most prestigious awards in the German film industry. It was awarded for the first time in 1979. The most recent award winners include Michael Bully Herbig, Sönke Wortmann and Martina Gedeck.
