Verona Pooths Son has big goals: San Diego wants to be a professional golfer. In order to realize his dream, the 18-year-old moved to the USA last fall and now lives around 8,000 kilometers away from his family in Florida.
There he attended the IMG Sports Academy, where stars like Boris Becker or Serena Williams laid the foundation for their success. Strict rules apply at school – which Diego has now disregarded. With severe consequences: the celebrity son was suspended from golf training.
“San Diego was released from golf training and will be training privately for the next six weeks until he graduates from high school at the IMG Academy,” confirmed the family’s management when asked by RTL.
The 18-year-old was still allowed to finish the school part, but he was permanently excluded from physical education classes. Fatal for Diego’s career aspirations, because he wanted to earn a scholarship to continue studying at the academy. However, you only get that with the appropriate sporting performance.
Severe penalty for breaking the rules
But what is the reason for the severe punishment? As Mama Verona told “Bild”, her son violated the school rules at a tournament in Tampa when he illegally left the hotel with three classmates in the evening to go eat a burger.
The presenter considers the suspension to be “not a just punishment”. She takes a more relaxed view of the incident. “I’m actually very happy that I have a child with rough edges. I don’t want to have a nerd who does everything right in life,” says Verona. Until he graduates, Diego will train privately on the golf course before he goes back to Germany.
