Prison sentence for right-wing extremist Sven Liebich

The public prosecutor’s office had pleaded for nine months’ imprisonment for Liebich. The reason is an attack on a photographer at a Corona demonstration. How did the district court sentence him?
The right-wing extremist Sven Liebich was sentenced to prison for an attack on a photographer at a Corona demonstration in Leipzig in November 2020. The Leipzig district court convicted him and two other men and a woman of common grievous bodily harm, as a spokeswoman said upon request.
A seven-month prison sentence was announced for Liebich and “not suspended”. The co-defendants received suspended sentences of between six and ten months – some including other penalties.
The verdicts are not legally binding, the MDR reported on this last Friday. According to her own words, the court spokeswoman expects an appeal to be lodged in view of the acquittals demanded by the defense of all defendants. The court is assuming a negative criminal prognosis and that he will continue to commit crimes in the future. The The public prosecutor had pleaded for nine months for Liebich.
Since 2014, Liebich, who is also known nationwide, has been organizing regular demonstrations, often on the market square in Halle (Saxony-Anhalt). Courts had already dealt with accusations against the man several times, but had only imposed fines and suspended sentences – a prison sentence from July is not yet legally binding.
