Boris Becker’s ex-partner only told her twelve-year-old son two days after his prison sentence. She broke the boy’s heart with it.
Boris Becker’s youngest child Amadeus (12) only found out about his father’s imprisonment two days after the verdict.
Telling her son that the ex-tennis star is in prison was the hardest thing she has ever had to do, ex-partner Lilly Becker told British broadcaster TalkTV on Tuesday evening.
“We as a family purposely didn’t talk about the process or anything,” said the 45-year-old. “But I had no choice but to break my heart – or rather his heart – last Sunday.” Amadeus is keen to see his father and she hopes he can visit him.
The three-time Wimbledon winner was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for bankruptcy offenses in London on Friday and was immediately taken into custody. He has to spend at least half the sentence behind bars. Becker is currently being held in a prison in Wandsworth, London. He has until the end of May to appeal the verdict. But experts see little chance of success.
She initially collapsed after the verdict, said Sharlely “Lilly” Becker. She called the verdict “strict”. She believed to the end that the 54-year-old would receive a lower sentence. “I had to pull myself together and I don’t know how I did it.” Lilly Becker said his ex-wife Barbara, Becker’s current girlfriend Lilian and they would stick together. They contacted me immediately after the verdict. “It’s difficult because it’s public, it’s everywhere. It’s difficult because everyone has an opinion on it,” she said. With the interview, she wanted to show that Becker “has a group of really strong women behind her” who protected him.
The Dutch model and the exceptional German athlete married in 2009 and separated in 2018.
