Vegetables for the comrades – District of Munich

One aspect of global capitalism that this pandemic has brought to light is the importance of the supply chain and its interruption. Whether it’s microchips for the auto industry, toys for Christmas or food – it seems strange what is being transferred around the world every day so that there is enough to buy and consume.

The documentary “Voices of Transition”, which will be shown this Friday in the parish hall in Baierbrunn, shows the sometimes catastrophic consequences for the climate, the soil and many producers and, among other things, presents the solution to the transformation of food production away from industrial agriculture to smaller, more decentralized ones Generation. It is presented, among others, by the “Solawi Isartal” initiative, which is committed to just that.

“Solawi” stands for solidarity-based agriculture, and after the film is shown, the founding team will explain its concept. “We want to take the agricultural turnaround a little bit into our own hands,” says Peter Tilmann, who leads through the evening and sits on the Baierbrunn municipal council for the Greens. “We are building the small structures to operate regional agriculture.”

Cooperative supplies vegetables and fruits

“Solawi Isartal” is a cooperative in the process of being founded, which wants to enable the regional, year-round cultivation of organic vegetables by permanently employed gardeners. The harvest is distributed weekly to the members in the form of a vegetable box. At the moment 32 households are already being supplied with organic boxes – “vegetables and fruit from the region for the region”. In the coming year, of course, the dimensions and foundations will expand. “Our goal is to supply over 100 households,” says Tilmann. From 2022 onwards, Solawi will be producing its own vegetables on its own field, south of Münsing. This harvest is shared among the comrades.

It is also about an environmentally and climate-friendly agricultural alternative to land use. The members acquire one or more cooperative shares. The more shares you acquire, the easier and faster the Solawi Isar valley will function, Tilmann hopes. Similar socio-ecological projects that cultivate the concept of solidarity agriculture already exist in Munich (“Potato Combine”) or in Isarwinkel (“Biotop Oberland”), where the Isartal comrades have copied a lot. “We’re closing a gap here,” says Tilmann.

“Solawi Isartal” emerged from the association “Bürgerkraft Isartal” and a project group of the “Agenda Pullach 2030”, generally committed citizens from Icking, Schäftlarn, Baierbrunn and Pullach are on board or, well, in the bed. The film evening is organized together with the association “Mittendrin in Baierbrunn”, which was founded in 2021.

The film evening with a lecture this Friday starts at 7.30 p.m. 2 G applies. Admission is free, donations are welcome.
