Valérie Pécresse wants to make line 6 accessible, a 2 billion project

Valérie Pécresse has declared disability a “great regional cause 2024”, and is calling for “unprecedented investments for transport accessibility” for the coming year. It is in this context that the president of the Ile-de-France region makes a proposal to the State and the Paris City Hall, to “finance the accessibility of line 6 in equal parts, to initiate the modernization of the century-old metro »according to budget documents that 20 minutes consulted.

According to figures from Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), 9% of the metro is currently accessible, especially line 14 in reality, part of the extension of which must be completed at the last minute in June 2024, which will bring the rate at 14%.

A proposal already made in 2021

Line 6 is the easiest to make accessible, because it travels by air over half of its route. “This year 2024 will be the year of the Paralympic Games, so inclusion will be at the heart of all regional policies,” promises Valérie Pécresse at the microphone of BFM Paris Île-de-Francewho spotted the proposal in the budget.

Valérie Pécresse’s proposal is not new, the president of the Ile-de-France region already promised in 2021 to provide a third of the financing: “I propose [d’apporter] a third of the necessary financing. But the State and the City of Paris will have to commit to financing the remaining two thirds,” she proposed, on a project then estimated at… 700 million euros.
