What role did Donald Trump play when his supporters stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021? To answer that question, investigators also apparently spoke to Jared Kushner.

According to media reports, investigators have interviewed Donald Trump’s son-in-law and ex-adviser Jared Kushner for their investigations into the former US President in the wake of the 2020 election.

Kushner testified before a jury, the New York Times and the US broadcaster CNN reported, citing unnamed sources. CNN also reported that Trump’s close confidant and adviser at the time, Hope Hicks, was also questioned.

Trump actually believed in voter fraud, according to Kushner

The New York Times reported that Kushner was questioned in June. Both in his questioning and in the questioning of other witnesses in the past few weeks, the question was whether Trump had privately admitted in the days after the election that he had lost. According to the New York Times, citing a source, Kushner testified that he had the impression that Trump actually believed that the election victory had been “stolen” from him – that his successor Joe Biden did not legitimately win.

To this day, Trump refuses to admit defeat. On the day that the US Congress was due to confirm the Democrat’s election victory, Trump supporters violently stormed the seat of parliament after an inciting speech by the Republican in order to prevent the transfer of power.

Will there be charges?

The US Department of Justice appointed independent special counsel Jack Smith in November to oversee investigations into Trump. He is not only responsible for investigating the events after the election and Trump’s role in the storming of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. He also led the investigation into Trump’s handling of classified government documents, which has already led to the indictment of the ex-president.

It is eagerly awaited when Smith’s investigation into Trump’s role in the Capitol attack will be completed, whether charges will be filed and, if so, for what crimes.

Like his wife Ivanka Trump, Kushner was a close advisor to the former Republican President in the White House. US media reported on the summons of Kushner and Ivanka Trump in February. According to the New York Times, unlike her husband, Trump’s daughter has not yet been interviewed.
