Almost 15 months after the violent protests in the US city of Kenosha there was an acquittal in a high-profile murder trial. A jury ruled that defendant Kyle Rittenhouse, then 17, had acted in self-defense. Rittenhouse shot at three demonstrators with an assault rifle during riots in the working class town on August 25, 2020, two of whom died. The riots were triggered by a white policeman being shot in the back of the African American Jacob Blake, who has been paraplegic since then.
