Still no clear majorities

According to the AP news agency, the question of who will hold the majority in the two chambers of Congress in the future has not yet been decided.

According to this, 207 Republican and 184 Democratic election winners had been proclaimed for the House of Representatives at this point in time – 218 seats are required for a majority. In the Senate, where around a third of the 100 seats were up for election, the race is even closer. According to the AP, the Republicans lead there with 49 to 48 seats.

At key races, such as Arizona and Nevada, votes continue to be counted, including absentee ballots. It could still be days before it is clear who has won in the closer races.

OSCE sees “widespread disinformation”

After the midterm elections, election observers from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) have expressed concern about “widespread disinformation”. The observers spoke of “threats against poll workers” and actions aimed at “undermining voters’ trust in the electoral process by unfoundedly questioning its integrity”.

The refusal of some people to accept the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election results has negatively impacted public debate and reduced trust in the system, Margareta Cederfelt of the OSCE Election Observation Mission said at a news conference. These “unfounded allegations of fraud” would continue to have “serious consequences, with harassment and threats against the election workers”.

Not all the results are known yet, Biden said in a speech. But the “red wave” expected by many, i.e. a march through of the opposition Republicans, “didn’t happen”.

Researchers: Republicans snatch 10 seats from Democrats in House of Representatives

Election researchers from Edison Research assume that the Republicans have won a total of ten seats in the US House of Representatives previously held by the Democrats. That would be five more than it takes to gain control of the House of Representatives. However, 42 of 435 races have not yet been decided.
