Only black Republican candidate
The senator from the state of South Carolina – the only black representative of his party in the legislative chamber – announced his application in May. However, his chances of success were assessed as low from the start. He was last in the party’s internal field of candidates according to calculations by the website “FiveThirtyEight” only in sixth place.
According to the surveys, former President Donald Trump is far ahead in favor of party supporters.
First January primary in Iowa
Unlike the Democrats, the Republicans have a broad field of candidates. Anyone who actually wants to become the party’s official candidate must first win the party’s internal primaries. For the Republicans, voters will first decide on their preferred candidate in Iowa on January 15th. The presidential election will take place on November 5th.
