Washington intends to degrade the rebels’ ability to strike commercial ships crossing the Red Sea.

The US military carried out a series of additional strikes against Houthis in Yemen on Friday, January 12, two US officials told Reuters, a day after launching a first salvo of attacks on nearly 30 sites in that country in south of the Arabian Peninsula. The United States thus intends to degrade the rebels’ ability to strike commercial ships crossing the Red Sea. The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, declined to provide further details.
