A really stupid accident happened in Upper Franconia these days, at least, let’s be clear, the driver was uninjured. The 82-year-old man was traveling by car when – he was almost home – a pot with roulades and dumplings tipped over on the passenger seat and he was so shocked that he caused an accident and 25,000 euros in damage.
And there was nothing left for lunch either. As the police announced, the roulades landed in the driver’s lap and the dumplings were distributed in the center console. The whole thing is already very unpleasant, but then also on Sunday afternoon. You can recognize an Upper Franconian by the fact that they eat dumplings four times a week, as the saying goes, and Sunday is almost certainly one of these four days.
That happened in Weitramsdorf, near Coburg, thank God there’s still an inn there, maybe the old gentleman went straight to the old brewery after the whole mess. Alternatively, assuming the car still works, he could have driven to Coburg and simply taken a few dumplings home with him from the dumpling shop. In a well-secured pot this time. But maybe he came straight from there.
Such a device is incredibly practical, but handmade dumplings require a certain amount of effort. If it’s not against honor, you can of course use ready-made dumpling dough. Or just pick some up.
Since Corona, people no longer look funny at whoever enters a restaurant with a pot in their hands, and takeaway food has survived the pandemic. Only the – well-frequented – Schäuferla drive-in, which a knowledgeable host opened in Corona times, is no longer necessary thanks to normal operation.
One can regret the delivery and pick-up culture, because that’s the way it goes with the domestic cooking pot competence. Then soon nobody will be able to prepare a proper roast pork and it would have been in vain that Markus Söder and Hubert Aiwanger worked so hard because the Greens supposedly want to ban us from eating meat completely. On the other hand, such a dumpling to go is a great thing for all those who, due to a lack of alternatives, could otherwise only get pizza. And by the way also vegan, if you left out the sauce. But now it’s gonna be a mess. After all, it’s called dumpling with sauce.
