Upper Bavaria: excursionists and skiers cause traffic jams – Bavaria

Bright sunshine lured many day trippers and skiers to the mountains in Bavaria at the weekend. “The weather is nice, everyone wants to go somewhere,” said a spokesman for the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South on Saturday about the traffic situation. The southbound autobahns were correspondingly full, and drivers sometimes had to be patient early in the morning. Many parking spaces in popular ski areas were also full, for example at Spitzingsee. Traffic on the A8 autobahn between the Munich South and Irschenberg interchanges was backed up over a distance of 25 kilometers. The reason: too much traffic. There was also construction work near Holzkirchen. Traffic was also repeatedly blocked on some country roads.

Those who made it up the mountain, however, expected fantastic conditions. The Brauneck-Wegscheid ski area, for example, reported plenty of sun and snow with good grip. The meteorologists in Bavaria also announced a lot of sunshine and bright blue skies for Sunday. The temperatures should be between minus four degrees in the eastern low mountain ranges and a mild twelve degrees in the foothills of the Alps.

At the Großer Arber in the Bavarian Forest, the police are investigating after skiing accidents on suspicion of negligent bodily harm. A nine-year-old girl and a 29-year-old man were injured on Thursday and Friday while skiing in the Bavarian Forest, the police said on Saturday. The girl was taken to hospital with head injuries after a 35-year-old skier crashed into her. The man is now being investigated.

A day later, a 29-year-old skier was hit and injured by a 16-year-old snowboarder. The skier initially fell without external influence and was then hit by the 16-year-old and hit by his snowboard. He suffered a deep cut on his forearm. The man was taken to a hospital. The 16-year-old is also being investigated.

In the Allgäu, two young people experienced an unpleasant surprise after the stop: they had to go home without skis after visiting an alpine pasture in Nesselwang in the evening. The police said on Saturday that strangers had stolen the sports equipment parked in front of the house. Only the sticks were left behind. The 15 and 17-year-old brothers went night skiing with their family on Friday evening in the Ostallgäu ski area at the Alpspitzbahn. The investigators estimate the value of the stolen skis at around 800 euros.
