The number of “new admission applications received and posted in the system” between January 1st and 25th was given as “a good 2,500”, reported the magazine, which had made a corresponding request.

Almost 2,000 new AfD applications in two weeks

1,900 applications have been received since January 10th alone, the “Spiegel” quoted from the AfD’s written statement. However, these still need to be checked. According to the AfD statutes, there is a one-month objection period.

More than 10,000 new members in one year

Between January 20th and 24th, according to the AfD, “137 to 202 applications were received per day,” as “Spiegel” also reports. “It is very likely that this has not happened since the time it was founded in 2013 that around 800 applications were received within five days,” the party said. “The already strong growth, especially since the second half of 2023,” has increased, and tends to be “even clearer in the snapshot of the last few days.”

According to the federal party, the AfD has gained “a little more than 1,000 new net members since January 1st of this year, meaning it currently has just under 41,000” members. These are membership applications completed last year. In spring 2023, an AfD spokesman mentioned the number of 29,180 members. For comparison: As the largest party in Germany, the CDU has 371,000 members, the SPD 365,000, the Greens 126,000 and the FDP 71,000.
