Elephants trumpet, hum, squeak and can even learn Korean. The biologist Angela Stöger talks about the conversations of an amazing animal species.
When Angela Stöger talks about elephants, she does so emphatically, knowledgeably and, above all, without periods or commas. Stöger, 47, sits in her office in the Biology Center at the University of Vienna. The biologist and zoologist was recently honored for the science book of the year in Austria, with her work “Elephants. Their wisdom, their language and their social interaction” she won in the “Sciences and Technology” category. Stöger teaches at the University of Vienna and she also conducts research at the Institute for Sound Research at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
