Update for Logic Pro: Mac and iPad get new functions

Apple released a major update for its Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) Logic Pro on Monday evening – for both the Mac and the iPad. The range of functions of both versions is even more similar, even if the macOS version is still more extensive.

Logic Pro for iPadOS is now landing at version 1.1. The update brings a new mastering assistant with which you can create “release-ready mixes” directly on the tablet – including a “wide range of intuitive sound design tools”. Using the microphone function or a connected audio device, you can quickly create samples that become instruments or drum kits.

Official support for Split View and Stage Manager allows additional apps to be opened in parallel; Apple, for example, mentions voice memos here. The overview for samples, loops and instruments can now be operated using a touch gesture in preview mode. Using the Files apps, you can import multiple files into Logic Pro at the same time to turn them into stems or drum kits. Apple also delivers a new “Hybrid Textures” package with 70 patches and over 80 loops free of charge, for which there must of course be enough space on the iPad.

The macOS version 10.8 of Logic Pro comes with the new Master Assistant, can import samples into Sample Alchemy and has a new Beat Breaker, a plug-in for morphing timing and pitch. Editing the timeline has been made easier; you can now move and rotate content more easily. Finally, Logic Pro now supports recording 32-bit float files directly “with compatible devices”, which complements the previous 32-bit float functions. The Hybrid Textures sample pack is also available on Mac.

Logic Pro costs 230 euros on the Mac, and a test phase is available. The iPad version costs 5 euros per month or 50 euros per year. It runs on iPads with A12 Bionic or higher. iPadOS 17 is required. The Mac must be running at least Ventura (macOS 13.5). Both apps are now available for download in the App Store; payment is made via in-app purchase.
