Unterschleißheim – Via the Ballhausforum to Feldmoching – District of Munich

A new possibility is created for commuters to get quickly from Unterschleißheim to Munich and back. With the timetable change in December 2023, the express bus line X 206 will go into operation. It should run from the north side of Lohhof station via Siemensstrasse and Landshuter Strasse with the Ballhausforum and Keltenschanze stops and end in Feldmoching. Several stops are planned in Oberschleißheim. Mondays to Saturdays, every 20 minutes from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., with a journey time of 18 minutes. The traffic committee of the Unterschleißheim city council lashed the route on Tuesday evening. The eastern urban area is not served.

A few years ago, when the debate about express bus connections to Munich began, other plans were being discussed. So the first idea was to have the bus in Munich run from Feldmoching via Harthof to the subway at Petuelring. But the city of Munich and the Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV) refused to continue because the bus would run on routes that served other lines.

Accepting the destination in Feldmoching was relatively easy for the city councils. Opinions were divided on the question of whether the bus in the west should primarily serve commercial areas or residential areas on Keplerstrasse further east. There were four variants to choose from, with the traffic planners at MVV and in the district office appealing to the city to consider the character of an express bus and to plan few stops.

Mayor Christoph Böck (SPD) underlined this and recommended that the express bus line be seen in connection with the other bus connections in the city. In 2026, the entire urban bus network should be readjusted. And then perhaps with minibuses and with shorter cycle times you will see how residential areas can be better developed in order to get citizens easily to the S-Bahn stations or to a transfer point for the new express bus. Böck said he expected greater potential from a connection of the express bus line to the commercial locations in the west, i.e. to the Infinity Hotel, the Kaufland market and also the Ballhaus Forum. An important stop could be at the Keltenschanze, where company employees on the business campus and at the new Koryfeum industrial park could get on and off.

There was not much discussion about a variant that would have led from Bahnhof-Lohhof-Süd via Bezirksstraße. The city council found this to be of little use because of the already busy district road. But some campaigned for the express bus to run from Siemensstrasse via Robert-Bosch-Strasse to Carl-von-Linde-Strasse, with a stop on Keplerstrasse. Brigitte Weinzierl (CSU) thought that few would go to the Ballhausforum. When there are events there in the evening, there are also bus offers from organizers. Bernd Knatz (ÖDP) also wanted a pan across Keplerstrasse to connect local residents. It would cost 45,000 euros to expand the stop there.

But Thomas Breitenstein (SPD) did not see Keplerstrasse as the central transfer point. A city bus is better there, he thought, and emphasized the importance of the Keltenschanze stop on the business campus. Tino Schlagintweit (Greens) also saw more potential to attract company employees for the bus service to and from Munich. Eight city councilors voted for the variant via Ballhausforum, three for the route via Keplerstrasse. Now the planning should continue like this.
