Unterschleißheim – shopping and living in the Esso area – district of Munich

Public pressure is growing in Unterschleißheim that something should go further on the central Esso property on the district road. The wasteland that arose after the petrol station was demolished lies like an open wound in the heart of the shopping street, which could well do with a revival after the Corona and inflation crises. It is now becoming apparent that the city is abandoning its original plans to implement a residential project with a café for senior citizens at this exposed location on urban land. A fair trade shop was also discussed. The trend is now towards trade and commerce. There is also open talk about putting the project in the hands of an investor.

Many construction projects are being planned and are under construction: the garden district, the new city center on Rathausplatz and multi-generational living in Lohhof-Süd. In addition, the communal apartments on Kiebitzstraße. In addition, the Red Cross is building and the fire station is being renovated. There was hardly any time for the construction department to take care of the district road. The CSU has been pushing for a long time to finally get started there in the interest of the business people on the central shopping mile.

The district street should be revitalized, that is the goal of the CSU and SPD.

Now something is happening with the other parties as well. In the most recent city council meeting of the CSU, SPD and AfD, three applications were submitted, all of which were accepted by a majority for treatment. The CSU insists on planning “immediately” to enable construction for a full-range retailer or a drugstore as well as apartments and restaurants. In addition, the city should check whether an external project developer could take over the whole thing. Selling the property could improve the city’s financial situation somewhat. The CSU is thus close to what the SPD has requested, which is striving for a development that primarily strengthens retail and gastronomy and also creates “enough parking space”. Multi-level parking would be desirable. The SPD also considers it worth considering selling the area. An external builder could develop it.

The AfD wants to create a dormitory for students and vocational school students on the wasteland. The Greens flatly refused to deal with the applications in the city council because they felt that the city lacked the human resources to make qualified decisions about the future of the area.
