Unterschleißheim: New attempt for e-scooters – district of Munich

E-scooters are about to make a comeback in Unterschleißheim. After the withdrawal of the US provider Bird from Europe at the end of 2022 and consequently also from Unterschleißheim, where a model operation was just running, another company is now ready to set up two-wheelers for hire in the city. According to the town hall, there is a corresponding request, Mayor Christoph Böck (SPD) will inform the transport committee of the city council next week. Details are not known. Neither is the name of the company. Most recently, the Greens had criticized electric scooters because people with visual impairments would be endangered by driving on sidewalks and parking wildly.

From the town hall it is said that the experiences from the model operation with Bird have been processed and the evaluation will provide valuable information on how cooperation with a new provider can be designed. City hall spokesman Steven Ahlrep expects the issue to be discussed in more detail in March. A business area and rules for an orderly operation should be defined. Mayor Böck recently stated that e-scooter rental could not be legally prohibited.
