A lot is new in season 21 of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”. The casting show gets a fresh theme song. In addition, everyone aged 16 and over can now collect Dieter Bohlen’s verdict.

This time the oldest applicant is over 90: The RTL show ““Deutschland sucht den Superstar” (“DSDS”) started the new casting round with a few innovations. The auditions began on Thursday in Europa-Park in Rust near Freiburg. For the first time in the history of the format, there is no age limit for applicants up. “The oldest candidate this year is 92 years old,” said an RTL spokesman to dpa.

In addition, the “opener”, the show’s signature tune, was revised for the first time in more than 20 years. The “DSDS” logo has once again received a facelift. The total of 15 new episodes, including a live finale, will be broadcast on RTL and RTL+ from autumn 2024.

The jury

“DSDS” chief juror Dieter Bohlen, pop singer Beatrice Egli, rapper Loredana and singer Pietro Lombardi are the jury at the heart of the new 21st season. In an RTL announcement, Dieter Bohlen spoke of the “most varied casting ever”. Looking at the backdrop of the amusement park in Rust, the “pop titan” said: “I just hope that the candidates don’t go on a rollercoaster ride before their performance – that could end badly for us as a jury.”

Beatrice Egli said about her jury job: “I won’t forget this day in a hurry. My journey started right here over ten years ago. So it was a very special moment for me when I joined the jury for the first time today -I’m just absorbing everything and looking forward to many interesting and talented candidates.”

Loredana raised expectations among the audience: she had “already seen some strong performances – the audience can expect something.”

Pietro Lombardi was happy: “From the first day of filming I can already say: This is going to be a very special season. Finally there is no longer an age limit. There were already some older candidates there today who really gave it their all and really delivered.”

Previously, applicants generally had to be between 16 and 30 years old. Candidates up to 40 were rarely admitted. Now the upper limit has been completely eliminated for the first time. “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” is produced by UFA Show & Factual.
