Unterföhring rejects new local model – district of Munich

There will be no new local model in Unterföhring in the foreseeable future. After a long and intensive discussion, the municipal council rejected an application by the PWU for this. The group of voters had suggested that the terraced houses that are planned on the site between Aschheimer Strasse, Römerstrasse and Germanenstrasse should be allocated in a local model, i.e. the plots of land should be sold to local residents according to an allocation system to be determined, who can then build there. The municipality is currently developing a development plan for the area.

Four apartment buildings and three rows of terraced houses with a large underground car park are to be built there. It is also planned that the current interim children’s home on Römerweg will have a permanent home with outdoor facilities and staff apartments. The first building with rental apartments, “Zeile 18”, is already under construction.

The local politicians of the PWU argued that the housing market in Unterföhring, with its high price level, offers little opportunity, especially for young families, to buy a house or an apartment. They wanted to make this possible with a local model. After all, property is also good old-age provision. However, the majority of the city council was not convinced. A local model allows only a few to buy their own home. In addition, the conditions are difficult to define with legal certainty. On the other hand, if the municipality acts as a landlord and ensures affordable rents over the years, a larger group of citizens could benefit, so the counter-argument, which was finally followed by 14 out of 25 municipal council members.
