Unterfoehring – Against oppression – District of Munich

For weeks, courageous Iranians have been taking to the streets against the authoritarian regime in their country, protesting against the oppression by the theocratic government and the living conditions dictated by the mullahs. Young women cut their hair in public as a protest against the compulsory headscarf – and risk being imprisoned, tortured or even executed. The slogan “Zan, Zendegi, Azadi” – woman, life, freedom, resounds through the streets of Tehran and many other cities; The song “Another Love” by Tom Odell is repeatedly played online as a protest song of the movement. And this was also loud on Saturday evening in Unterföhring. The cross-party women’s alliance Unterföhring had invited people to support the protests and sent a clear signal of solidarity with the courageous Iranians. Candles lit the station square, pictures of victims of the regime’s bloody crackdown on the protests were shown – including that of Jina Mahsa Amini, whose death in the custody of the Iranian vice squad sparked the protests. They were also remembered in Unterföhring.
