Unsurprisingly, the motion of censure carried by the Nupes is rejected

He will have missed 50 votes to obtain an absolute majority and overthrow the Borne government. Unsurprisingly, the National Assembly rejected this Monday evening the motion of censure of the left-wing coalition Nupes on the draft budget 2023, to which the RN gave its support.

The motion garnered 239 votes out of the 289 needed. The motion of censure was carried by the Nupes after the use of article 49.3 by the executive. Recourse to this article allows the adoption of a law without a vote.

RN and Nupes describe an “end of reign” atmosphere in the Assembly

The deputies must now vote on the motion of the group of Marine Le Pen, which should be very largely rejected and lead to the adoption of the revenue section of the budget at first reading.

RN like Nupes described an atmosphere of “end of reign” with the use of 49.3. The opposition criticizes the government for “sweeping” amendments voted by the Assembly, in particular the increase in the taxation of “superdividends”, proposed by the MoDem, a member of the majority.

Since 1958, the date of the creation of the Fifth Republic, only a motion of censure has succeeded.
