Britain relies on nuclear energy in the fight against climate change. A new nuclear power plant should help to reduce the country’s CO2 emissions. Approval could already be given in the coming year.

According to a newspaper report, the government in London is relying on nuclear power to meet its climate targets. Before the elections in 2024, the financing of a new nuclear power plant is to take place as part of their climate strategy, reported “The Telegraph”.

Suffolk as a possible location

“We are trying to approve at least one more large nuclear project in the next few years to strengthen energy security and create thousands of jobs,” said a government spokesman when asked by Reuters.

The site of Sizewell C in the southeastern English county of Suffolk is being considered as the location for another nuclear power plant, the newspaper writes, citing people familiar with the matter. By 2035, the UK aims to drive carbon emissions to zero.
