How it works ?
Same principle as the heritage lottery presented by Stéphane Bern. This scratch game will allowFrench Biodiversity Office to raise funds for the preservation of biodiversity.
For each operation and for a year, French people who buy this green ticket, decorated with a butterfly and elements of fauna and flora, will see 43 cents being directed directly to the OFB. Players can hope for a maximum gain of 30,000 euros.
How much money could the operation raise?
At least 6 million euros: this is what the OFB wants to raise thanks to this new scratch game. The government aims to sell 14 million tickets. Around 15 million tickets will be on sale. The money will then be distributed to the winning projects.
Who will benefit from the money raised?
By participating in this rather special lottery, the player contributes to the financing of around twenty missions linked to the protection of biodiversity such as the cleaning of a polluted pond, the planting of hedges, the restoration of butterfly populations, etc.
More than 60 candidates are listed, including Bird Protection League, WWF or local authorities which propose projects to protect nature in the city or restore biodiversity in areas affected by fires last summer. Grants will range from 50,000 to one million euros. The selection committee meets this week and will be chaired by the Secretary of State for Biodiversity, Sarah El Hairy. The twenty selected projects will be revealed on Wednesday October 18.
Why is the issue not just about raising funds?
Certainly, 6 million euros are only a drop in the bucket compared to the financing needs required for the preservation of biodiversity, the other major environmental crisis underway with climate change.
