Every single state has to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions – this is what the Paris Agreement wants. But if you put all the signatory states together, emissions will not decrease by 2030, but actually increase.

António Guterres doesn’t ignore it for long. “We are here to raise the alarm,” said the Secretary General of the United Nations. There is a gigantic, global gap that worries Guterres: between what would be necessary in terms of climate protection and what the states have wanted to do so far. “We are still on the way to a climate catastrophe,” says the 72-year-old Portuguese.
