Ulrich Maly welcomes you on the corner seat of his eat-in kitchen in the south of Nuremberg. As a then 59-year-old, he did not take up office in 2020 after three mayor terms, to the surprise of almost everyone, including in the SPD in Nuremberg. Shortly before that, he had been voted “Germany’s most popular big city mayor” in a survey.
