STORY: Russian passports to Ukrainian residents. As Russian media reported on Wednesday, officials in the Russian-held city of Enerhodar in south-eastern Ukraine, among other places, have started issuing Russian passports to residents. Twenty-five residents have already received passports, RIA news agency officials said, after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree in July offering all citizens of Ukraine a simplified path to obtaining Russian citizenship. This is a serious encroachment on the sovereignty of Ukraine, which has been trying to defend itself against the Russian invasion since the end of February. Volodymyr Zelensky’s wife Olena Zelenska also traveled to the United States on Wednesday as part of the defense against the war of aggression. The wife of the Ukrainian president campaigned before the US Congress in Washington for more arms deliveries to her country. In her speech, Zelenska accused Russia of waging a terror war against Ukraine. She stressed that more guns are needed to protect everyone’s homes. In this context, Selenska specifically requested air defense systems. At the same time, she thanked the United States for the previous help.
