In western Lviv, a refuge for tens of thousands of refugees, Russian cruise missiles hit industrial plants and the airport. People’s anxious question: will residential buildings and the unique old town soon be targeted?

In December 2021, Dmirto Matrunchik, Director of the Lviv State Aircraft Repair Plant, presented good news: his plant could finally do its job MiG-29-Repair and modernize Soviet-made aircraft and other MiG fighters without Russian spare parts. The factory can now produce 1,400 replacement parts itself. The Lviv plant had previously made decrepit jets airworthy again for the Ukrainian Air Force. The plant at the Lviv airport was therefore considered a potential target from the first days of the new war.
