The Ukrainian capital Kyiv was rocked again by explosions in the morning. Shortly before, the sirens had warned of air raids. According to the Presidential Office, the city was attacked with attack drones.

A week after mass Russian missile attacks on Ukraine, multiple explosions have rocked the center of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the central Shevchenko district was hit. He called on the city’s residents to seek shelter. Shortly before, the sirens had warned of air raids.

There are fires and heavy smoke in several places in the city. There is no official information about the dead or injured. Among other things, a spot near Kyiv’s main train station was hit. The police called on the people to go to air raid shelters quickly.

Attack with kamikaze drones

Andriy Yermak, the head of Ukraine’s presidential office, wrote in the messaging app Telegram that Russia had attacked Kyiv with Iranian Shahed drones. The so-called kamikaze drones have been used several times in recent weeks to attack city centers and infrastructure such as power plants.

Before the attacks in Kyiv, there was also a Russian rocket attack in north-eastern Ukraine. This was confirmed by the governor of the Sumy region. There were also reports of explosions from the areas around Dnipropetrovsk and Odessa.

On Monday last week, the Russian army attacked Kyiv and numerous other cities in Ukraine. At least 19 people were killed and 105 others injured. According to the Russian account, the massive attacks were in response to the explosion on the Crimean bridge, for which Russia blames the Ukrainian secret service.
