Several children were seriously injured in an airstrike on a residential area in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.

According to the authorities, at least 20 people were injured in the shelling in the center of the country on Sunday night. Three of the injured children were therefore in a serious condition.

Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Zelenskyy blamed Russia for the attack in a Facebook post and said other people were trapped under the rubble. The head of state released a video showing emergency services searching for people buried in the rubble.

“Five children were injured by the enemy in the Pidhorodnenska commune,” said the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region Serhiy Lysak. Doctors had classified the condition of three injured boys as “serious”. They are in operating rooms. Of the 20 injured, 17 were hospitalized.

A child could be buried

The search for possible victims continues, said Lysak. A child is believed to be under the rubble.

Russian airstrikes on Ukraine have increased in recent weeks. The Ukrainian army, for its part, is increasingly attacking Russian locations from the air. Ukraine has been preparing for a counteroffensive for months. Zelenskyj announced on Saturday that the preparations were now complete.
