The western Ukrainian city of Lviv was the target of a Russian air strike this morning. An AFP journalist reported numerous explosions and heavy vehicles on the city’s streets during the nightly curfew. Lviv is just under 80 kilometers east of the border with NATO and EU member Poland.
The impact of a drone sparked a fire in a city warehouse, according to local authorities. A camp employee was killed. His body was recovered from the rubble of the building by helpers. One person was slightly injured and another person was seriously injured.
Relief supplies were also destroyed
According to the aid organization Caritas International, 300 tons of relief supplies, including warm clothing and generators for winter relief, were also stored in the affected building. These were destroyed. “Humanitarian aid must not be a goal in a war. We condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms,” said the head of Caritas International, Oliver Müller. He spoke of a senseless action that showed the brutality of the war and particularly affected the population. The aid organization announced that it would continue its work.

Attacks in other regions too
Other parts of Ukraine also reported Russian attacks. According to the military administration, ten Iranian-designed “Shahed-136/131” drones were shot down at dawn over the southern Ukrainian region of Mykolaiv alone.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the Nikopol district came under artillery fire, said regional governor Serhiy Lysak. Six private houses as well as an electricity and a gas pipe were damaged. A 71-year-old was injured and taken to hospital, he continued.
In the southern city of Krivyi Rih, a drone hit a multi-story residential building, starting a fire, according to authorities. Another drone was shot down.
27 drones shot down
In total, the Russian army used 30 kamikaze drones and an “Iskander-M” missile during the night, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Telegram. 27 drones were shot down.
The attacks are said to have been launched – as on the previous day – from the western shore of the Sea of Azov and from the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed by Russia in violation of international law in 2014.
