Ukraine demo in Munich: “Until they stop attacking us” – Munich

Numerous people took to the streets in Munich on Saturday against the war in Ukraine. A police spokesman said a good 1,500 people came to the demonstration on Königsplatz. A few hundred demonstrators were also on the Odeonsplatz for a short time. It is really overwhelming and nice to see how people who were brought to Munich from Ukraine just a few days ago now wanted nothing more than to help other people from Ukraine in Munich, said Munich City Councilor Felix Sproll the Volt party, which had registered the rally on Königsplatz.

Supporters, including Sproll, had recently helped on the Ukrainian-Slovakian border and brought people to Bavaria. Among the participants in the demonstration was a 27-year-old Ukrainian journalist who fled to Munich from the city of Odessa just a few days ago. It is important that Germany now help Ukraine, she said. The only peaceful way is to stop economic relations with Russia – “until they stop attacking us,” she said.

Attacking children’s wards and maternity clinics, killing civilians, literally starving the city of Mariupol – “that’s barbarism and that has to end,” said SPD Vice President Markus Rinderspacher. “We stand with the Ukrainian people. That is the sign of this demonstration.”
